Look at these models. Better - from the far. Do you notice anything special?
In case of first 2 photos, it's not easy.
However, these are not usual models. They are made of paper. Sometimes it's hard o believe, but they are. Today we'll talk about such kind of models.
Everyone knows that Games Workshop models are not getting cheaper. Especially when it comes to enormous Super-heavy vehicles like this Fellblade. Is it correct - to substitute the original models with their paper analogs? HEre's the field where a lot of hobbists fight.
On the one hand - you can't say that such model requires less work. Especially if it's made on the same level as on these photos. On the other - not all the players can reach such quality. In most cases, paper models don't look like the original ones and glued roughly. What should club owners do? Ban all paper models, or not?
Besides, paper models have a lot of obvious disadvantages. For example - paper infantry looks...Weird. Well, this particular model is fine, but it won't do for the real game.
Also, paper models are only good for square massive Imperial machines. It can be easily proved by this photo. All in all, not every player can create an army entirely made of paper. So - if you have to spend on miniatures anyway, do you really need to mess with paper?
And here's the part where the approach to hobby itself plays a great role. If you want to collect an army with minimum expenses, no matter of quality - it's more likely that this wargame is not for you. There are a lot of cheaper and easier to start wargames. Most opponents won't appreciate the whole army made of paper.
However, if you are interested in creating a paper model itself - why not to get a couple? Especially, if they are made in proper way.
Also, papercraft is great for dioramas and terrain. It's a well-known fact, that terrain from thick paper is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to create a nice gaming table.
Another important part is painting - only gluing the model is not enough. You should paint it even better than a plastic one.
You can also mix plastic bitz with the paper base. But don't forget that paper model is more fragile than a plastic one.
By the way, how do you think - is it better to paint paper models, or leave them white, but with the drawn edges, like on these photos?
The number of small details on this wagon proves that you need a great skill for making paper models.
Also, it's kind of hard - to afford such model from resign. And paper is closer to average player. But...Is it worth it?
